Weekly Stewardship Report: Children’s Faith Formation
Second Offering: $2,352 for R.O.P.E., benefiting our SF Immersion Trip
“Teach a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
The importance of passing on our faith to our children cannot be overstated. The first place to teach the faith is in the Domestic Church–our homes. Next we depend on many wonderful parish volunteers to help bring our children in deeper relationship with Jesus.
The first exposure our children have is in our Holy Spirit nursery. The nursery is available to children from standing to 5 years old at the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday. Jean Lattie organizes the many parents and youth who assist in the nursery on a rotating basis. Just this year, we have added a faith sharing component to the nursery through bible stories and games.
Faith Formation classes are for children in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays. To offer this much flexibility to the families at Holy Spirit takes the time of many faithful people. Through the guidance of Merry Reardon and Melissa Brush, 15 men and women volunteer their time to teach our faith to the young and eager minds of over 200 children.
Holy Spirit also offers children in grades K – 5 an opportunity to explore the readings of the week at their own grade level each Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Mass and Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Mass. Currently, 20 men and women break open the Word with children attending these Masses during Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW).
We are all called to share our faith and we are looking for a few more people willing to answer this call. We are currently in need of:
- 4 to 5 caring people to help in the nursery during the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays. This is a one hour commitment, once every two months, with no preparation required.
- 4 catechists for CLOW to share the weekly readings at 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturdays. This is a 20 minute commitment, once a month, with minimal preparation prior to Mass.
- 1 catechist for Faith Formation class on Wednesdays from 5:15-6:30 p.m.. This requires about an hour of preparation prior to the class time.
- 1 assistant and 1 catechist for Faith Formation class on Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This requires about an hour of preparation for the catechist, but no preparation for the assistant.
