Volunteers Needed To Help the San Jose Flood Victims
UPDATE: SIGNUPS ARE CLOSED
Sacred Heart Community Services has been asked by the City of San Jose to spearhead the distribution of weekly food supplies, weekly clothing pickups, as well as checks providing financial relief. Most of the victims are still living in shelters while the laborious clean-up procedures are completed. For the most part, they are part of the working poor of Santa Clara Valley.
All of these people in addition to the regular Sacred Heart customers means that huge volumes of food are being delivered daily to the Sacred Heart pantry from Second Harvest Food Bank. Many volunteers are needed to bag and process this food, so it is ready to be distributed to the throngs of people coming to collect the essentials of living. However, the large pantry at Sacred Heart shrinks with all the pallets and boxes stacked everywhere. As a result, the number of volunteers has to be kept to a working minimum.
Holy Spirit has been asked to fill the following shifts for this coming week beginning March 13th. Please sign up on the parish website. This schedule may change as the weeks progress, so check on the parish website for information for the following weeks.
Monday, March 13th 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Tuesday, March 14th 12:00-3:00 p.m.
Thursday, March 16th 12:00-3:00 p.m.
We are limited to 10 people per shift. While older teens are welcome, this isn’t a place for children under 15. Volunteers will be serving in the pantry, so wear older clothes and closed toe shoes. Report to the Volunteer Lobby which is at the rear of the building just past the Donation Station and tell them you are from Holy Spirit. Please allow extra time to find parking. Don’t park in Wendy’s, Denny’s or Wal Mart as you will probably be towed. You will have to park on the side streets around Sacred Heart. Carpooling is advised.
Thank you for rearranging your schedules, arranging for childcare, and being so willing to serve our brothers and sisters in need. If you are unable to serve, please remember them in your prayers. Also, know your donations to the Reverse Collection will be going to help these families.
