Turkey Drive: Give Thanks, Give Back
The Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons are opportunities for us to celebrate the good gifts God has given us. For many, the holiday season is a special time to serve the poor and share our wealth with those who need it. There will be many such opportunities at Holy Spirit Parish throughout this holiday season. One of these is the Turkey Drive, which starts this weekend.
Each Thanksgiving, Sacred Heart feeds 3300 families, or 10,000 individuals, with turkeys and meal boxes. This is the largest distribution of its kind in the United States! Because of the recession, Sacred Heart has seen a 50% increase in the overall demand for their services. Many more working class families are struggling to meet their basic needs, such as food, shelter, and warmth.
We will be doing a special fundraising drive to purchase turkeys for the families in need at Sacred Heart. This is the seventh year of the drive. Last year we raised $9000! Each turkey is a $20 donation, and feeds 12-18 people. Donations will be collected at a table outside of each Mass this weekend November 16/17.
We encourage you to join with the rest of the parish community to feed the hungry and clothe the needy as we wait with joyful anticipation for the arrival of our Lord at Christmas. Please prayerfully consider if you and your family can participate!
