In the beginning, God created the Universe, the World and all the creatures in it, and then God created humans in God’s image. “God blessed them saying: 'Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living things that move on earth.'‟ (Gn 1:28) “God looked at everything He had made, and He found it very good.” (Gn 1:31)
So, from the very beginning, God asked humanity to care for the earth and all the living creatures and green plants. Keeping this in mind, the Holy Spirit Green Team has been given approval by the Pastoral Council to launch its latest project—a Sustainable Garden.
California’s climate is basically semi-arid. Some may ask, What is a Sustainable Garden? Simply put, it requires using plants which thrive in the same climactic conditions that exist here in the Santa Clara Valley. Using native plants in our gardens is guaranteed to reduce our water use, as these plants need very little or no watering.
Phase One began on Saturday, June 11th. You no doubt noticed that the garden areas by the Church portico have been cleared to enable planting native plants this weekend.
As you’ve noticed, the Green Corner has offered many ideas for caring for one of our most important resources--water. All life requires water. After all, the human body consists of 60% to 70% water.
