Survival Sacks – July 11th & 25th
Survival Sacks Twice in June several volunteers from Holy Spirit arrived bright and early to distribute survival sacks to the homeless at Sacred Heart Community Service. People who live on the streets are often focused on finding food and shelter, and unable to worry about other necessities like basic hygiene items. On the 10th and 25th of every month, Sacred Heart distributes survival sacks to homeless people. The sacks are a back pack filled with personal hygiene items, new underwear and socks, and a blanket. The survival sacks are very popular! A homeless person is eligible for a survival sack every three months. Volunteers distributing the back packs share smiles and conversation with the homeless. The connections made between the volunteers and the homeless are priceless.
The Survival Sack program is fortunate to have Starbucks as a new corporate sponsor; the local store on Monterey Highway provides coffee on the first distribution day each month. Clients often comment on how nice it is to have someone care enough to offer them a cup of hot coffee.
Together with Christ, Holy Spirit and SHCS are making the streets of San Jose just a bit more comfortable for the homeless. We hope you can join us on July 11th & 25th. Click here to sign up. For questions, please contact Patty O’Neil and Tom Burgei at firstname.lastname@example.org.
