Survival Sacks – August 10th
Sacred Heart Community Service distributes Survival Sacks to homeless men and women twice a month. These popular packs consist of a black back pack full of necessities: two sets of new underwear, two pairs of socks, bar of soap, tooth brush and tooth paste, deodorant, shampoo, comb, razor, wash cloth, two rolls of toilet paper, small first aid kit, rain poncho, and a thin “airline” type blanket. All of these items can be donated directly to Sacred Heart, or placed in the donation bins in the Parish Hall. NOTE: It was pointed out that feminine hygiene products are very scarce. If you are able to donate these products, just put it them in the Sacred Heart bins in Parish Hall.
Each homeless person is eligible to receive a Survival Sack every three months. As you can imagine, these backpacks are very popular! People line up outside in the courtyard before the doors of Sacred Heart are open in hopes of receiving one.
On Monday, August 10th, a group of volunteers from Holy Spirit will be assisting with the distribution of these valuable packs. Volunteers must be 15 years old and older.
We will meet at Sacred Heart at 8:45 a.m. and will work along Sacred Heart staff members until the bags are all gone—usually after about an hour or hour and a half. This is a unique opportunity to serve the homeless with your smile, your conversation, and your time.
We are starting this monthly program with a small group of 10 volunteers until the program is completely developed. Consider joining us as we walk our journey of living our faith! Click here to sign up.
