Special Collection to Support Holy Spirit’s Missionary Scholarship Fund – April 23rd & 24th
A special collection will be taken at all Masses the weekend of April 23rd & 24th to support the Missionary Scholarship Fund. The Scholarship Fund will provide financial assistance to Holy Spirit missionaries on national and international assignments to impoverished areas of throughout the world. While much of our current missionary activity is centered on Nicaragua, the plan is to expand our missionary outreach to other areas of the country.
This summer, four young adults have applied and been accepted into Amigos for Christ’s incredibly competitive Servant Leader program. These individuals will spend their summer assisting and ministering to missionary groups traveling to Nicaragua, working in many of the poorest communities in rural Nicaragua. Allie Politoski, Emma Roth and Nate Metzger were selected for three month assignments. These dedicated young people have worked shorter summer Servant Leader stints, but this will be their first three month assignments. Jonathan Donkers, a first-time Servant Leader, was given a two-week assignment this summer.
This year Bob Fields has also accepted a four-month assignment from Amigos for Christ as a missionary support staff person. Bob, who has made most of our mission trips to Nicaragua, will be assisting our full-time missionary in Nicaragua, Shannon McCarthy, with missionary groups this summer.
The parish is proud of all these individuals in their commitment to going to the fringes of society and offering themselves to the poorest of the poor. Our hope is the Missionary Scholarship Fund will continue to enable our parishioners to follow in Jesus’ footsteps by taking these roads less traveled.
