Social Ministry Restructured – Part Two
Social Ministry Restructured…
Part Two – The next phase for ROPE
Last week we began to describe the changes for our Social Ministries Committee. This week we present the final change of this restructuring. Beginning in April, we will be coordinating all second collections of money and goods under a new financial subcommittee within Strategic Planning. This new subcommittee will replace what we have all come to know as ROPE – Reaching Out to People Everywhere.
This new committee recognizes the significant changes that have taken place over the past forty years since ROPE was established as the primary means of outreach from the parish. Today there are 20 ministries, utilizing over 1,000 volunteers and 25,000 volunteer hours annually, collecting $250,000 in money and donated goods. The needs of social ministry at Holy Spirit has evolved from collecting donations supporting causes and ministries outside of the parish to include collections that support ministries functioning within the parish that focus on parishioners’ Time, Treasure and Talent.
ROPE Chairperson Pat Sterner, who has served in this capacity for the past 15 years, will continue as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee and will continue assisting with the new process as well as the transition from ROPE.
We will no longer have ROPE collections on the fourth weekend of every month. Instead we will schedule our once a month second offerings as needed. We will continue to support some of the same agencies ROPE has supported in the past, and the consolidation should help Social Ministries better organize and prioritize needs and requests. If you regularly donate to ROPE, we ask that instead of making that pledge to ROPE, you direct that gift to the 2nd offering of the month.
