Reverse Collection for Sunday Friends – June 18th & 19th and June 25th & 26th
Many families from Holy Spirit have participated and continue to support Sunday Friends. Monthly, a group of 15 parishioners go to Sunday Friends to help low-income families learn new skills to get back on their feet again. Sunday Friends is the “working alternative to charity”, therefore, entire families are encouraged to work and participate in this very hands on program. Activities range from arts and crafts to cooking projects, reading, computer lessons, translation services, STEM activities, etc.
Participation in the various projects, such a parenting classes, nutrition lessons, health awareness, and language classes earn the families “tickets” which can be redeemed in the “store” for various items.
Graciela speaks for hundreds of Sunday Friends families when she tells us that the ability to earn basic necessities through our program uplifts her entire family – for now and for the future.
“One of the most important things that I have taken away from Sunday Friends is the sense of hope that it evokes in me. Sunday Friends makes me feel hope because I see the reality of the fruits of our labor. I feel as though I have more value as a person at home because all this help makes raising my children much easier. I love them, and as a member of Sunday Friends I am also teaching them that we must work hard for the things that we need and want.”
Our families work every Sunday at Sunday Friends to earn essential items. You can help!! The following items are desperately needed in the “store”.
- Baby Wipes
- Laundry Detergent
- Dish Soap
- Toilet Paper
- Household Cleansers
Holy Spirit Parish will be collecting these items the weekends of June 18th-19th and June 25th-26th. Please bring your donations to Mass and place them in the bins at the door.
