Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care Ministry assists parishioners with spiritual needs arising out of sickness, being homebound or grieving, including providing Holy Eucharist.

Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick

Parishioners ask us as Church, as their Community of Faith, to pray for their sick and dying. That’s why we name the members of our Parish Community in the General Intercessions at Mass, why we gather as family in home or hospital to celebrate the Sacrament of the Sick, why our pastoral ministers bring Communion to the sick, why we lovingly inscribe the names of our deceased in the Book of Remembrance beginning on All Saints Day each November.

Pastoral care and visiting our sick is a very important parish ministry here at Holy Spirit.

Kitchen Angels

Kitchen Angels are a special group of people who provide helpers to take care of the kitchen and other food related duties for funeral receptions.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Compassion and the love of knitting/crocheting have been combined into a prayerful ministry and spiritual practice which reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace, as well as in celebration and joy. Many blessings are prayed into every prayer shawl. The shawl maker begins with prayers and blessings for the recipient. The intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. Upon completion, a final blessing is offered before the shawl is sent on its way. Shawls can be used for: undergoing medical procedures; comfort after a loss and bereavement; during times of stress; prayer or meditation; commitment or marriage ceremonies; birthing, nursing a baby; bridal shower or wedding gift; during an illness and recovery; ministering to others. Some recipients have continued the kindness by making a shawl and passing it onto someone in need. Thus, the blessing ripples from person-to-person, with both the giver and receiver feeling the unconditional embrace of our sheltering and loving God!

Prayer Shawls, symbolizing God’s unconditional love to us, are available for any parishioner battling loss, illness, depression or preparing for surgery. Contact the Pastoral Care office at 997.5110 or Sandy Palodichuk at spalodichuk@att.net. Note: February prayer shawl meeting moved to February 13th off-site. Contact Sandy for more information.
