The first Nicaragua Immersion Trip information meeting was held on January 26.  (Download Powerpoint presentation below)

The trip is our fourth mission trip to Nicaragu, August 4th-11th. We are again partnering with Amigos for Christ, the Atlanta-based non-profit that does wonderful work in Nicaragua. This year, for the first time, we will stay in the new men and women dorms in Amigos’ Chinandega compound.

Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Our week there provides the opportunity to work in the rural areas of the country, side-by-side with the poorest in Nicaragua, digging trenches for water lines, building houses, and delivering livestock from our Alernative Gift program. While it’s hard work, it’s also an opportunity to build community with the Nicaraguan people and our fellow Holy Spirit parishioners.

The estimated cost of this year’s trip is $1025 including airfare and room and board. Minors are required to travel with an adult and the minimum age is 15 years of age. Missionaries will be responsible for fundraising to offset the cost of the trip. February 29th - Deadline to pay $50 deposit to Holy Spirit Church to book seat on Continental Airline group airfare.

March 22nd @ 7 p.m. - Prep Meeting #2 for Missionaries (Parish Hall)

May 19th @ 6 p.m. - Fiesta Fundraiser Dinner (Parish Hall)

 May 24th @ 7 p.m. - Prep Meeting #3 for Missionaries (Parish Hall) 

June 4th - DEADLINE to pay remainder of group airfare to Holy Spirit Church

June 4th - Deadline for non-refundable $250 deposit to Amigos for Christ; register online with Amigos at www.regonline.com/SanJose2012. Deadline includes all required notarized forms.

July 26th @ 7 p.m. - Prep Meeting #4 for Missionaries

August 4th-11th - Mission trip to Nicaragua. We leave from Holy Spirit parking lot on Friday night, August 3rd.

August 12th @ 6 p.m. - Return Mass for Missionaries at Holy Spirit Church

*Group airfare note: Full cost of airfare (est. $745 - $775) is due to Holy Spirit by June 4, 2012.  Should an individual cancel after this date but before July 4th, airfare will be refunded minus a $50 deposit made to the airline. Airfare is non-refundable for cancellations after July 4th.
