Nicaragua 2015 & Alternative Gifts
Planning is already underway for the 2015 Nicaragua Mission Trip, and the opportunities to give and serve are limitless.
Our parish is again doing two one-week trips to Chinandega this year to accommodate the amount of interest this trip has been attracting the past couple of years. The first trip is the week of July 3-11 and the second trip is the week of July 11-18.
It is slightly more expensive to fly to Nicaragua each year – our group airfare this year will be roughly $1,200. Room and board with Amigos for Christ will be roughly $250. Registration for this year’s trip will open on the parish website at noon on January 13.
Alternative Gifts – Give the Gift That Keeps On Giving
Looking for a different way to give the gift of Christmas? You can do this through our Alternative Gift Program. By donating to this program, you can fund a pig, cow or chicken for a family in Nicaragua. Alternative Gifts kick off the weekend of December 6-7 and will continue for the two weekends following. We need volunteers after all Masses for these weekends: of December 6-7, 13-14, 20-21. Please email email@example.com if you can help.
In northwestern Nicaragua, more than 70% of rural children have intestinal parasites, which will cause malnutrition. Simple hygiene that we take for granted can prevent this from happening. In addition to the Alternative Gifts of animals, you can help fund the Modern Bathroom Project. For as little as $687, you can provide a Nicaragua family a water-seal toilet and a shower with running water. We’re also helping to fund the Modern Kitchen project, which helps to eliminate a major source of respiratory issues for the people of Nicaragua.
For more info, stop by the tables after Mass beginning December 6-7.
