Keys to Spiritual Freedom: Fish On Fridays
Imagine a small dog bite on the wrist. The wound is small and otherwise inconsiderable. It may not hurt, it may not bleed, it may not be too noticeable. The next day you may notice redness around the wound. Leave it another several hours and that redness turns into streaks creeping up the arm. Leave it another several hours and the arm is in danger of amputation. Leave it a day or two and there is danger of death.
A small wound left unattended is open to infection which could lead to death. A small spiritual wound left unattended is open to spiritual infection which could lead to spiritual damage. These infections could include persistent anger, resentment, fear, anxiety, and envy, among others. The wounds could be as small as a snide remark from years ago.
In our 2014 Lenten Series, “Keys to Spiritual Freedom”, we will present the keys to be free of the infections and wounds of our soul. As part of the parish’s effort for Spiritual Fitness, this Lent we will focus on spiritual freedom in Jesus Christ which is the foundation of spiritual fitness. In addition to the Sunday 4-minutes, we will offer more in-depth presentations called “Fish on Fridays” on the last three Fridays of Lent—March 28, April 4, April 11—at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. We will also share in a simple fish supper.
