Annual Diocesan Appeal 2014: Help Us Reach 100% Participation!
In December 2013, Time magazine named Pope Francis Person of the Year. Indeed he has made incredible inroads in changing the views of many people tow
Francis believes the place that missionary work starts is in the parish:ards Christ and his Church. This presents us with a great opportunity to evangelize more people to the message of Christ and the joy of the gospel. We, as the local Catholic Church of San Jose, have much work to do to fulfill his vision of being “merciful, compassionate and open to all.” Pope Francis reminds us that “The Eucharist is a not prize for the perfect but a powerful medicine & nourishment for the weak.” He asks all Catholics to become missionaries to those who live on the “peripheries.”
[The parish] is a community of communities, a sanctuary where the thirsty come to drink in the midst of their journey, and a center of constant missionary outreach…We must be completely mission-oriented. [28. The Joy of the Gospel]
We need vibrant parishes and we need the local Catholic Church to step up to the challenge of the Holy Father. Bishop McGrath strives to make all parishes mission-oriented but he needs our help. Holy Spirit Parish has made great strides over the last several years in our missionary work to San Jose, Nicaragua, and now Mississippi, but many parishes lack the ability to do so. They also need our help.
Each year the bishop conducts an Annual Diocesan Appeal (ADA) that unites each parish into one mission. The 2014 ADA, “Called to One Table – Together in Christ,” provides us with an opportunity to sustain that mission. The ADA funds provide for:
- Development of lay leadership
- Clergy and seminarian training
- Youth and young adult ministries
- And many other pastoral services
Last year your pledges made a difference in our parish and our diocese. We thank you for your generous gift. Our 2014 ADA Goal is a significant increase over last year’s goal. We are asking you to consider increasing your gift this year so we can reach our goal, and beyond—every dollar received over our goal comes back to the Parish and will be directed to the church refurbishment. We hope that we can count on your support once again.
