2016 Annual Diocesan Appeal – Rejoicing in God’s Mercy, Together in Christ
Beginning with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the Pope has called for a Year of Mercy. In announcing this Jubilee Year, the Holy Father proclaimed that “the Church is the house that welcomes all and refuses no one.” He asks all churches in the world to emphasize God’s mercy and reach out to those in need. He calls all Catholics to be dispensers of the “medicine of mercy” to all.
The theme of our 2016 Annual Diocesan Appeal, Rejoicing in God’s Mercy, Together in Christ, reflects the call of Pope Francis for an Extraordinary Jubilee to celebrate God’s great and wonderful gift of mercy. Mindful of the call to be merciful, Bishop McGrath through the Annual Diocesan Appeal (ADA) embraces the vision of Pope Francis and strives to serve the needs of thousands of families through our Diocesan Ministries.
Your gift to the ADA provides for the continuing work of the Church to show God’s mercy to those who are most in need. We do this through our catechetical, liturgical, educational and social justice ministries. We do this because you make all of these good works possible. We will continue to do this because of your support of this year’s ADA.
Last year your generous gift made a difference in our parish and our diocese. We thank you for your support. Our 2016 ADA Goal is an increase over last year. Every dollar received over our goal comes back to the parish and will be directed to our parish efforts to support our brothers and sisters in need. We hope that we can count on your support once again. Finally, we ask one more thing of you; please encourage other families to support the ADA.
The pope wants us to understand that the mercy of God is not an abstract idea, but a concrete reality through which he reveals his love as that of a father or mother, moved to the very depths out of the love of their child. Put simply, we are called to love others in a radical way this year.
Thank you, in advance, for your prayerful consideration of this year’s Appeal and together we can make a difference. May God bless you and your families throughout this New Year.
